CEO Jonathan McLean and Chair Lee Wood are pleased to announce Dr. Kristin Gill, Hancy Maxis, and Leah Rajaratnam have joined the CASES Board of Trustees.
Jonathan said about Kristin, Hancy, and Leah: “The CASES Board of Trustees has gained three new accomplished advocates. This remarkable group of professionals has deep expertise in their respective fields and will be a significant resource to our organization. We are looking forward to working with them to improve the lives of our clients and make New York City a more just and equitable city.”
Dr. Kristin Gill is a psychiatrist and physician leader, with expertise in women’s mental health and public psychiatry. She has a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) in Psychopharmacology and is board certified in Psychiatry and Community and Public Psychiatry. Her leadership spans health plans, digital health, and large hospital systems, and she also continues to care for patients in her private practice, where she specializes in treating women with mental health concerns. Kristin is currently the Medical Director of Behavioral Health for New York’s Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans at Carelon Behavioral Health (a subsidiary of Elevance Health). Previously, she was the first Chief Medical Officer at Minded, a digital healthcare company specializing in women’s mental health. She is also an advisor to Iron Health, a women’s digital health start-up that offers multidisciplinary support to OB/GYN practices via a tech-enabled platform, where she was instrumental in implementing the Collaborative Care Model in OB/GYN practices across the country. As a mixed-race female physician with diverse leadership experience, she offers unique insights on expanding access, ensuring inclusion and equity, integrative care and driving innovation in healthcare. Kristin is passionate about empowering folks to take control of their mental health and expanding access to psychiatric care to individuals who identify as female, particularly females of color. She also continues to be committed to promoting women of color to leadership roles in healthcare, as well as closing the physician gender pay gap. As a recognized thought leader in the field of women’s mental health, Kristin’s insights have been featured in prominent media outlets including The Huffington Post, SELF Magazine, Women’s Health, Yahoo News, Reader’s Digest, among others. She has also been recognized as a LinkedIn Top Community Voice in Healthcare, Leadership, Healthcare Management, Public Speaking and Thought Leadership.
Hancy Maxis is the Senior Project Manager in the Department of Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center, where he oversees the department’s capital resources and orchestrates large projects impacting multiple strategic core functions of pathology on all campuses, including clinical programs. Hancy is also active in the healthcare and public health research spaces, including collaborative works with Columbia University, Yale University, Bard College, and Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Hancy has a deep belief in the transformational potential of education and has worked to expose nontraditional students to scholarship. Outside of his profession in healthcare, Hancy is the Director of the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI) Public Health Fellowship where he guides formerly incarcerated fellows in crafting public health policy and programs within the area of health equity. Hancy also firmly believes that the place of education matters and has partnered with Harlem Children’s Zone to provide community-based, intensive mathematics instruction as well as Bard Microcollege to provide focused assistance to associate degree students in Brooklyn’s central library at Grand Army Plaza. Hancy is a graduate of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health with a master’s in health administration (MHA) where he was a Heilbrunn scholar, and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Bard College, after completing a capstone project entitled Game-strategic Analysis: A Linear Algebraic Approach to the Nash Equilibrium and Application to `Big Med.’
Leah Rajaratnam is a Strategic Programs Lead at Google, where she applies her 10+ years of expertise in product and program management towards generative AI experiences. Previously, as a Director of Product Management at the award-winning digital agency Work & Co, she led the creation of brand narratives and user-centric digital experiences for partners like Chase, Uber and Equinox. She holds a B.A. in Literature from Yale University. In addition to her professional experience, she brings her passion for racial and economic justice and behavioral health support. During 2020’s surge in antiracist book sales, she co-created a website called Racial Justice Bookshelf to funnel profits towards Black-owned bookstores. She also volunteered as a Lifeline Counselor with The Trevor Project for over five years, providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ youth. She is honored to have the opportunity to support and amplify the CASES mission.
