CASES CEO Receives Sara Tullar Fasoldt Leadership and Humanitarian Award

On February 4, New York State Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (OPCA) State Director Robert Maccarone visited CASES to present Joel Copperman with the Sara Tullar Fasoldt Leadership and Humanitarian Award. The award pays special tribute to outstanding individuals in the field of community corrections who demonstrate extraordinary professionalism, personal commitment and dedication-all hallmarks of the life and work of Sara Fasoldt, former head of the NYS Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives. In presenting the award, Deputy Commissioner Maccarone highlighted Mr. Copperman’s visionary leadership in building an organization that has provided a national model for working effectively with individuals with mental illness involved in the court system and has expanded services and programs for youth.

Having worked with Sara during her tenure as NYS DPCA Director, Joel remarked that her passion, commitment and vision for the work that we are doing was inspiring. Mr. Copperman also credited CASES staff for the achievement, saying, “CASES staff demonstrate every day that our clients can be served in the community and society’s reliance on jail and prison is an unnecessary and expensive policy.”
