CASES Hosts OPCA Fundamentals of Community Corrections Training

From September 27-30, 2010, CASES hosted Yvonne Behan, Nancy Andino, and Cindy Trimble from the Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (OPCA) as they conducted the New York State Fundamentals of Community Corrections training. Local community corrections professionals, including staff from CASES’ Court Employment Project, successfully completed the 28-hour curriculum, which was developed through the efforts of a statewide workgroup and has been accredited by the American Probation and Parole Association.

The Fundamentals of Community Corrections (FCC) training is the first of its kind, featuring a research-based curriculum that addresses the specific needs of ATI program staff. The training covered topics such as the rights of the ATI program participant, criminogenic risk factors that lead to recidivism, the principles of effective interventions, and the importance of Motivational Interviewing.
