PROGRAMS
YOUNG ADULT JUSTICE SCHOLARS

Outcomes

The program tracks improvement in literacy and numeracy skill levels, attainment of a high school or GED diploma, and pursuit of post-secondary credentials.

CASES was among six other NYC nonprofits selected by the NYC Department of Probation to operate the inaugural 2012 Young Adult Justice Scholars Program. The program is part of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's Young Men's Initiative, the nation's boldest and most comprehensive effort to tackle the disparities that are slowing the advancement of black and Latino young men.

The six-month program serves young men and women ages 16-24 that have been court-involved within a year prior to program enrollment. The goal is to reduce recidivism while supporting positive educational outcomes for participants.

Screening

CASES screens youth for voluntary enrollment in the program based on referrals from the New York City Department of Probation, the New York City Department of Correction, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and nonprofit organizations.
